“It’s not failure it’s unfinished success.”

Now for a timely commercial…

“Start the new year right with one of the best New Year’s resolutions and good-for-you goals that will get you psyched to make it your best year ever.”

Every new year there is a tsunami of reminders that yes, we are all not perfect so we need to lay out our dirty laundry, and wash away our shortfalls to become a happier, healthier society.

  • Exercise more.
  • Lose weight.
  • Get organized.
  • Learn a new skill or hobby.
  • Live life to the fullest.
  • Save more money / spend less money.
  • Quit smoking.
  • Spend more time with family and friends

Past Resolutions

Looking at past NEW YEARS Resolutions is tough when you did not meet your mark of success.

“Many years ago, I made a NEW Years resolution to never make new years resolutions. Hell, it’s the only resolution I have ever kept!”

– D.S. Mixell

At first the renewal of a new year feels fabulous. Guilt is covered up with a new hope, “this time I will win. I will beat the default me and overcome my weaknesses.”

It’s like after you wash your car, clean your house, tidy cupboards and fix those pesky annoyances. We all seem to love that clean slate to move forward.

Resolutions seem to do that too. They give us a fresh page from past failures. We leave behind more than dirt, dust and garbage. We leave behind the guilt. This time I will win!

What happens?

Life happens. We let the sewage of everyday struggles get us off track. There will always be stinking, rotten sewage that distracts us if we let it. It flows into to our life sometimes out of our control washing  out our good intentions.

Maybe it’s how you look at it.

So, failures in your life can be good or bad.

It’s not just failure you need to look at. It’s why you fail.

Failure is a shining light on a bigger problem that can infiltrate many areas of your life. Not just this one goal you set at the beginning of a new year.

Why do I fail in reaching my goals?

That might be the only goal you need to set this year.

Finding out why.

  • Explore,
  • dig down deep,
  • figure out what holds you back in reaching your best life ever.

Could it be… fear of failure, procrastination, doubts, waiting for the perfect time, not committed, expecting immediate results?

These are the obvious choices, but I think we can dig deeper.

A friend told me once on my weight loss journey its not about loosing the weight … you need to let it go. I have put a lot of thought into that comment. Was the weight a protective shield against something sinister in my life? Was it my crutch in dealing with challenges?  It still perplexes me.

Does it come down to …

‘Do we love ourselves enough?’

We can do tough things when people we love ask for help. But why do our cries to help ourselves not get the same attention?

Its wonderful to be the hero to those around us, but it does not resonate the same for our selves.

There are people that win in life. Elon Musk states

“no one is interested in your story unless you win, so get winning”

Tony Robbins, went from the dust, from nothing, and built a mountain of success. He was a janitor living in his car. He could have settled for that life but he wanted more.

What drove him to wanting more?

Self worth, Self love?

Maybe he felt ‘I deserve good health, more wealth, a life of freedom’.

This drive overcomes, laziness, procrastination, and every other excuse that makes you fail.

Love yourself enough to do the hard stuff. That is the difference between winners and losers.

Put passion behind the drive and this becomes a lethal weapon for success.

Be your own cheerleader. Say to yourself daily,

  • “You’re making a big change, and that’s a really big deal.”
  • “I’m so proud of you for doing what’s right for you!”
  • “I’m rooting for you, every day, all the time.”
  • “Even when you might not always feel like it, you have the strength to do this!”

Put more time and effort into ‘you’ and you will have more than enough to help others.

Time makes up the pages that will be your story of winning.

Celebrate endings—for they precede new beginnings.

You have the power to make it a happy new year!!
