Don’t waste your time or time will waste you.

“Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?” “That depends a good deal on where you want to get to,” said the Cat. “I don’t much care where—” said Alice. “Then it doesn’t matter which way you go,” said the Cat.

Oh, What A Year It Was …

Each year shows us as humans we are not only affected by our choices, but the ever-changing environment around us. We can steer our boat but the waters are sometimes rough.

Navigating in rough waters can make our journey tough but thank goodness for a new year and the new opportunities that await us.

The saying for New Years, ‘Out with the old and in with the new’ seems like a right of passage.

Sometimes it’s like throwing out the baby with the bathwater though.

The passing year can’t have been all that bad?

With any experience comes growth…right?

But are you growing in the right direction?

Are you having winning experiences that move you where you want to go?

The New Year does offer a blank slate — an opportunity to get things back on track.

A time to take stock of choices made and mistakes forgiven.

When you set New Year’s resolutions, you are initiating self-mastery. Setting a goal and following through on it, you have a sense of control over what’s happening in your life.

The result – freedom. There is nothing better.

Reflecting On The Past Year

Before you move ahead in a new year, you need to reflect on the past year.

2 things need to happen

  1. Be honest
  2. Be real

Take the time to review the good, the bad and the ugly results before digging in and making new goals.

Looking back, did you have a successful year?

Sometimes survival deserves an honourable mention.

A Common List Of New Year’s Resolutions

This is a common list of what New Year’s resolutions look like.

  1. Exercise more

  4. Learn a new skill or hobby
  5. Live life to the fullest
  6. Save more/spend less
  7. Quit bad habits
  8. Quality time with friends and family

What you don’t want to do is get side tracked again.

Tips For Making New Year’s Resolutions

These points might help when making your New Year’s resolutions.

“Life is not a dress rehearsal”

– Rose Tremain:

If you keep tight to your plan, you won’t wander off in the wilderness,

Wasting Time on Things That Don’t Serve You

“There are two things you should never waste your time on. Things that don’t matter.  People that think you don’t matter.”

– Ziad K. Abdelnour

What kind of things could they be, you may ask?

  • Don’t waste your time on giving someone a second chance, when there is someone out there waiting for their first.
  • Don’t waste your time looking back at what you have lost. Move on, life is not meant to be traveled backwards.
  • Don’t waste your time on revenge. Those that hurt you will eventually face their own consequences.
  • Don’t waste time trying to impress others.
  • Don’t waste your time with fear… fear won’t keep you safe from hurt.
  • Don’t waste time proving you are a good person, those that matter know.

Time is your most precious gift because you only have a set amount of it.

You can make more money, but you can’t make more time. When you give someone your time, you are giving them a portion of your life that you’ll never get back. Your time is precious, it’s your life.

“Stand up for yourself, set boundaries and stop pleasing others.”

– Patrick King

Days, weeks, months and years go by and before you know it you look back and smile or feel sad at opportunities missed.

The best bet, invest in yourself first.

As the saying goes…

“Should an emergency situation occur, you need to put your own oxygen mask on first, before attempting to help those around you.” Using this analogy, you might instinctively think this is selfish, counter-intuitive even. But that’s far from the truth.”

– Randy Pausch

People can drain you if you let them. Learn to say no, if its not moving you to a stronger position.

There are things you can do to help others that won’t waste your time.

Winnie the Poo says…

”This is a hug from me to you, to let you know I’m thinking of you.  Although I have nothing to say, you know I have thought of you today”

Enough said, enough done.

Life will always be more than happy for you to take on the problems of the world.

You have two choices….

One will lead you to happiness, the other – to the madness!.. My advice to you, don’t step aside!.. (Keep focused on the path to your desired destination.)
