“By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail.”

– Benjamin Franklin

A MAN FELL IN A HOLE and couldn’t get out.

A businessman went by and the man called out for help. The businessman threw him some money and told him to buy himself a ladder. But the man could not buy a ladder in the hole he was in.

A doctor walked by. The man said, “Help! I can’t get out!” The doctor gave him a prescription. The man said thanks, but this won’t help, he was still in the hole.

A priest came by. The man called for help. The priest gave him a Bible and said, “I’ll say a prayer for you.” but he was still stuck in the hole.

A friend happened to be passing by. The man cried out, “Hey, help me. I’m stuck in this hole!” Right away the friend jumped down in the hole with him. The man said, “What are you doing? Now we’re both stuck here!!” But the friend said, “Calm down. It’s okay. I’ve been here before. I know how to get out.”

Can’t Wait!

When you are a child, you can’t wait till you are old enough to make decisions for yourself.

Can’t wait till you can drive
Can’t wait till you can live on your own
Can’t wait till you can stay out late
Can’t wait until…. Goes on and on

As a child you don’t understand adulting is more than the freedom you have.

There will always be restrictions and accountabilities no matter what stage of your life.

When you have the solid foundation of home life living with parents it seems easy but there are hidden responsibilities your parents’ shoulder that make your life safe.

Leaving The Nest

When the day comes, you have left the safety of the nest, that’s when the onion is peeled away and life starts.

Every decision, every choice, every doubt steers the course of your life.

“Life brings only so much luck which, when used up, leaves you without a safety net.”

First

One of the most important things I have found is to have a mentor. It’s like having a lighthouse that burns bright in your life to follow.

At any age establish this in your life. Someone that has walked the path that you are trying to find.

“A mentor empowers a person to see a possible future and believe it can be obtained.”

– Shawn Hitchcock

It could be your parents, a friend or even a notable person in the media that radiates the life you want.

It means the difference of traveling the logging road or taking the freeway. They know where the potholes, detours and dead ends are. Saves time and gas (internal distress).

I remember something Elon Musk quoted that had an impact on me.  “Nobody is interested in your story until you win, so get winning.” I realize as my journey unfolds there needs to be a happy ending before it has an impact on anyone.

Another mentor for me was Rhonda Byrne of the Secret movement. She took a concept that had been around for centuries and rebranded it. This new look of something borrowed started a movement to help bring hope to people’s lives. The book ‘The Secret’ has sold over 30 million copies and has been translated into 50 languages.

Rhonda Byrne jumped all in because at the time she was divorced, broke and had no job. The happy ending is she rebounded with great success.

Second

“If you don’t design your own plan, chances are you will fall into someone else’s plan.”

– Jim Rohn

Plan for ‘your’ success.

Everyone’s purpose in life is different, so you need to tweak a plan designed for your talents and abilities. You can admire from afar others and pattern how they were successful but your life is unique to you.

What you’re looking for is not out there its in you.

  • Visualize your ideal lifestyle.
  • Focus on your passions, talents and abilities.
  • Learn to differentiate support from opinions.
  • Make a list of things you value about yourself.
  • When you discover who you are you will be free.

Your self-purpose becomes your benchmark and navigator.

Third

Success comes from the inside out. In order to change what is on the outside, you must first change what is on the inside.

Once you embrace your value, talents and strengths, it neutralizes what is holding you back. Human’s like to stay where its easy.

No one ever said being successful was easy.

Passion is the driving force in your life to push past the hard.

Without it there is no spark to ignite movement.

Without passion there is no life.

It drives nature, it drives us.

Passion gets you to do the things necessary to grow and improve. Instead of going through the motions in life, you will push on and work harder to solve problems. You will learn what it really takes to be successful. You won’t give up at the first sign of struggle.

The Secret to Success.

The secret is you need all three components working hand in hand to be successful. One without the others is mute.

Mentor, Plan, Passion

You can have a mentor but trying to run in someone else’s shoes you will probably trip and fall.
You can put a plan in place but without strategy you can waste a lot of time.
Passion alone will get you nowhere. You are just chasing a dream.
The Outcome, synergy of all three is magical.

In the end…

The One that has experienced it all,

Who knows your purpose in life,

Who has planted a seed of desire in your hearts,

“The ultimate role model and mentor available to all of us, is our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”

C. Scott Grow

He will never leave you alone in a hole with no way out.
